i just want to mount it in a different spot in my trunk. It would only be disconnected for a max of 30 minutes. is it absolutely neccesary to discharge it before I disconnect it???

It is not necesarilly but it is recommended to avoid contact with the terminals in the installation porcess.

You are in no danger of electrocution from a car audio power supply capacitor, period.

However, it's so easy to discharge and to recharge a capacitor that there's no reason not to do it. Remove the main power supply fuse at the battery, then turn the system on to activate the amplifiers; this will drain the capacitor. (Turn the system off again after a few seconds; it won't take long). When the cap is mounted and wired in its new location, just place a 12v test light across the fuse holder terminals at the battery. When the test light goes out, the cap is charged; replace the fuse and you're done.

Again, regardless of what "educated" people tell you, you CAN NOT be electrocuted by a 16v or 20v rated capacitor in a car audio system.

No it is not necessary to discharge as long as you don't touch the contacts. A little advice on the new location "mount it as high and out of the way as you can".
