Have you ever wanted to go to chruch or something like that and the christians or representatives of jesus turned you off.

A lot of people do like christianity but dont like christians and feel that in general they are not representative of christ.

Any thoughts.

Also do you have any examples of stupid things people do or say to get you to go to church and do you ever wonder why they try to do that.

yes, I feel that especially in the south the values of christianiy are preached, then the parents let their teenage daughters run around half naked at church sponsored car washes. The bible itself has some concepts that are interesting and the 10 commandents are rules to try to life by. Also the concept of do onto others is a part of most religions and not a bad rule to live by.

Well, Im not a guy who is big on church but I went once for my ex-girlfriend. Im Agnostic & she is Christian. Im pretty much open to all religions.

I like what was being preach about everyday life events such as relationships, marriage, happiness, and making a better life for yourself.

On the other hand, I was less interested in his preaching of Christianity (Baptist). The part that turned me off is when he started to bash other religions (calling what Jehovah's witnesses believe as mess).

She also turned me off by trying to convert me and saying that I wasn't going to be saved. She also bashed other religions when I asked her what made her so sure about her own religion and how did she not know the muslims, hindus, jews, buddhists, etc. weren't right?

I believe that most people are so into religion because they were brought up that way and they fail to believe that they would follow another religion if they were brought up in another way.

Luke: Most non-Christians who ever considered looking at Christianity as a possible option have experienced what you describe.

The issue for you isn't what other people experience. The issue isn't even what Christians do, or say, or did and said.

Faith is a personal matter. Christians are flawed humans, same as you are, and I am, stumbling along making a lot of lousy choices. What they do might be a statement about what Christianity is, or it mightn't.

I'm not a Christian, and I'm not about to suggest you should not be one, or should be one.

But whatever you choose, it's your own choice. It's entirely too important to rely on anyone else to help you decide, yea or nay.

It was just this sort of thing that made me stop going to church, and then when I got myself away from those people and actually analzyed the religion itself I saw how deluded I'd been. I wouldn't say people said "stupid" things to get me to go to church, it was more of a reprimand. You know, if you miss a Sunday the next time they see you it's some sarcastic remark like "oh, so you finally found time for god?" and I even had one old guy admonish me like he had any authority over me, shook his finger in my face, and said "we've got to get you to church more often." I'm the sort of person, the more you push me to do something, the more I'll resist. I eventually resisted entirely, and have never regretted it. In fact, my biggest regret is wasting so many years trying to convince myself that I could be christian when all I saw were sheep and people who didn't think I had any value because I was single and had no children.

No I've never thought church was a good thing. I never wanted to go and am happy I wasn't forced to. There are some christians who do turn me off but they aren't the reason I don't go to church. I don't believe christianity is the right path so therefore I won't go to church.

I don't attend church because I've never known a church or "active" christian I could stand for 5 minutes. I'm sure I know many christians that I like - but then they are the ones who believe what they believe and live their lives, and don't try to cram their faith down everyone else's throat, and prove all who disagree with them wrong.

I've been reading all the aetheists who love to mess with the christians, throwing out theories and trapping questions and forcing christians to defend their faith. and the christiians seem to be failing.

It seems to me that the obvious answer is that I cannot prove that God exists - I just have faith that he does. That is the definition of faith, is it not? Belief in something for which there is no proof. Faith.

The strangest 'recruiter' I ever got was in college. I was in the commons studying for a test and two girls approached me. The girl started talking to me about this great place she found, and how it makes her feel, and she really sounded like she'd found a great crack house or somethign - she acted like she was on ecstacy with weird faces, and swooning movements as she spoke. After about 15 minutes I realized she was talking about a church. I was trying to be polite, but after 25 minutes I started packing my stuff as she was speaking. She hadn't let me get in a word anyway, besides "uh-huh". So she asked me what I thought of it, and would I like to come with her to a function on Sunday? I said no thank you, but thanks for asking. She gave me a filthy look, said "fine", and walked away. A 25 minute speech about getting high on God it ended with "fine." These are the kinds of christians I try to avoid.

I am a Christian, and I had to search for quite a while before I found a church that I was comfortable with. I ended up at a non-denominational church. I think that God can lead you to a church that has loving, thinking, and faithful members, because he did that for me.

I always go to church with my christian friends altough I am a muslim. I believe that by going to church, I can see how logical and rational my belief is.

In my recent visits to christian fellowship gatherings (evangelicals), upon knowing that I am a muslim, they always tell me that Jesus loves me and he is just waiting for me to let him get inside my heart. They tell me to accept Jesus and be saved.

But if Jesus really do love me, why would he allow me to be in hell if I don't let him get inside my heart? Why is it that they are preacing a Jesus who can not accept rejection? That if I don't accept him, I will burn in hell!!!

They always talk about love and about God's love yet they totally believe that non-believers of Jesus (being God) will be destined to suffer painful punishments in hell.

Christianity, yes its true, does not disappoints me but the teaching and interpretations of some christian churches just make me scared and speechless.

While christianity like islam preaches a forgiving God, some christians preach a discriminative God...

I feel that, the chirstian are still human. Human that are save by grace through faith. What they do, the things they do, the mistakes they made, are easily seen and made. They are human, still they do things wrongly. Their eagerness of asking someone to go is there.

If its from a friend, the person really thinking of the other person future, as in...saulavation... they care for the people, no matter how they do it, its out of love, and i am sure they don't know if the other party is happy about it unless the ohter happy tells the person about it.

hopes this answers ur question
