If you have a new key, you will need to program the chip in order for your car to start with the new key.
If you already have 2 'pre-programed' keys , you can do this yourself. Directions are in your owners manual.
If not, you will have to bring the vehicle & ALL existing keys to the dealer to program.
Since this is a security feature, you will also need to bring proof of ownership & identification.

The chip is what's programmed to the car as well as the cuts on the ignition key.
If it doesn't start, and you have replaced the barrel (the pats transceiver) does the THEFT light still blink fast?
If yes, you have another PATS issue, if it goes out after 3 seconds, then you have NO PATS ISSUES and have a basic concern with the car (such as fuel or ignition)
Without the kind of car, I can't help you with anymore ideas..sorry
Also you can get a key online, but a lot of places won't cut it for you, as they won't pay for the key if they mess up while cutting it to your car.. also without 2 keys that will start the car (known good keys), it requires a visit to the dealer or a locksmith to program the key, and sometimes these people charge more for "internet" keys as if the vehicle won't take the keys, they will have to diagnose if it's the keys or other problems.

Replacing the barrell won't stop the car from starting unless a different key is used. The processor or computer of the car reads the key chip, new keys must be re-programmed unless you have an old car

it would be just as easy to find the matching key on eBay and get that. pricewise probably the same.
DONT go to a car dealership for the key, they are insanely high priced.
