Your question doesn't really make sense. As far as what Dick W said about training my department trains you for a year and a half before you get your own car. Police don't get a free ride we have to put up with stupid people in your society that hate the police. Every one thinks that police break the same laws they are hired to uphold, a small % of us do and when they are caught the don't just get probation like a regular person would, they loss their job and go to jail. Not all cops are bad I have been doing this for 10 years and have never had a complaint put on me nor have I broken the law.

AS LONG AS THEY ARE ACTING WITHIN THE SCOPE OF THE LAW, why not? It doesn't matter how you get from Point A to Point B. Just get it done! The police should be free to develop innovative means of dealing with criminality.

After all, they are being paid to keep society protected, so why should they not be allowed to be creative and productive? Police work is a challenge, and new ways to get the job done keep it interesting and exciting.

EDIT: No, I'm not a Nazi. Please see highlighted first sentence, so we do not misunderstand one another.

If your question is "Should police be allowed to do whatever they want?" then the answer is no, they should not, and are not, legally permitted to do as they choose - they are required to follow the law, as well as generally more restrictive agency policies. The reasoning is quite simple - laws are made to protect the greater interests of a society, and police are empowered to enforce the law - not make it.

It appears that Stan P is in favor of policemen having the power of the SS.
Cops are abusive enough as it is. If anything they should be trained properly before they are turned loose on society.

No. Police should be required to follow the law like anyone else.

Certain exceptions might be written into the laws, that's fine. But police should not be allowed to use an "ends justify the means" argument to break the law at will.

Otherwise, they have no valid claim to being law enforcement.

certainly not to do their job, most can't think for themselves, they need politicians to do that. can you imagine the disasters to follow if given a free hand, possibly only a free hand to clutch a donut.

No. Because cops too often abuse their rights.
