I've been aching for about a week; thought it might be a kidney stone but it hasnt moved.

kidney stones do not move rapidly Out of your body. they have to be removed through medication. I recommend you see your medical doctor as soon as possible and Get a thorough examination to make sure this is not a kidney problem. If it isn't then you probably have pulled muscles and massage therapy would help.

A good massage therapist is my first thought for help because it sounds like muscles.
For more information on muscles read The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Davies. Natural muscle relaxers are bananas and/or molasses (a couple of swigs) because they contain magnisium and potassium.
But it does not rule out the possiblity of the spine being misaligned in which case a chiropractor could help.
