OK, well, you're going to have to make friends with your WC underwriters, and call them for specific questions, and READ YOUR NCCI manual!!

You can ALSO go to your local branch of www.iiaa.org, and sign up for some basic workers comp classes.

Comp isn't hard - it's VERY straightforward. If you've seen a policy, you'll notice there isn't much there - because it's all "per case law" in your state.

I would open a phone book and look in attorneys for one with a listing saying he or she is "board certified" in workers compensation. Take them to lunch and pick their brain. Most lawyers will be flattered you called and if invited would even give a free educational lecture to a bunch of adjusters (like ISAC, a group of independent adjusters in Florida I have spoken to many times) Just call them and tell them you are trying to understand workers comp better and heard they had a wonderful reputation etc. (flattery works) and I bet it works. Don't talk to the secretary - say you are an insurance agent and really need to hold and speak to the lawyer or it won't work.

Are you working for an agency? Are there producers there that can help you? You can go to your local IIA or PIA for information. Also, sign up for workers comp classes. All states require continuing education & there are plenty of classes available. Tell your boss that you need additional training in workers comp. He or she will much prefer that you know the coverages backwards & forwards than open the agency up for an E&O loss because you didn't know what you were doing.
