Adam and Eve were innocents, they had everything anyone could wish for. Eve being tempted by Satan(the serpent) and believing his lies brought sin to the world when she ate the forbidden fruit and then gave it to Adam to eat. When they ate the lies of Satan it took away their innocence and they were not only ashamed of their nakedness but that they had disobeyed God.

I don't mean to be cruel here, but you seem to be stuck on the nudity of Adam and Eve. It wasn't the eating of the fruit that made them ashamed. Their sin was disobedience. Now, having eaten of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil that was in the middle of the Garden of Eden, AFTER being told that they could not, they had the knowledge they sure didn't expect.

its a symbolic story to help explain some events that occurred
there was a lot of people on the earth at that time
it wasn't just fruit they ate
shame comes with what ever knowledge they received when they partook of something they were warned about

Philosophically speaking, I believe it to be an allegory of the loss of innocence. A revelation that they had gone against what God had told them not to do. And therefore they saw their own weaknesses..or nudity...or stupidity...or vulnerability or all of these...
But...that it just my interpretation. Many see this as an actual event.

"Adam" is a Hebrew word for "mankind". "Adam" was not a single individual - "Adam" was "mankind". Therefore, by translating into English, all kinds of original meanings are lost. This fact is also lost to way too many people who do not understand this, or don't want to.
