Yes, i've read about Christianity...... being in a Convent school, i used to frequently go to our Church n then i thought of reading the Bible, but i couldn't read it completely. though in our assemblies i used to listen to other students and teachers who used to smtimes read the Bible....... even without reading i'm 100% sure that it has the same spiritual significance like my Bhagvad Geeta or Sai Satcharitra
~~~Good Day 2 u Aradhana dear~~~ :)) :))
None at all. (Please read further before voting -ve)
All the religious texts have been written, edited, even manipulated from generations altogether. What we have with us today, is only a snapshot of the real teachings of great people. Each religion has it's own unique psyche, a different method & approach towards reaching the same goal. Hence, I believe that all these religions are different paths leading to the same GOD; and each path is unique in it's own nature. If we try drawing similarities (or differences for that matter), we will lose our focus on the ultimate goal. Hence, we must always stick to the tenets of our own religion (without ever transgressing other people's path, of course) to develop steadfastness & resoluteness of mind; which will help us in realising the Absolute Truth.
Yes, I have read about other religions. If we do not read and learn we cannot grow. If I disagree in is an affirmation of the faith I practice, and if I agree there is a lesson to be learned. Because there is a lesson learned does not mean I am an active participant of a religion, but rather I have found some aspect that I respect and can use in my life. Actually, I have found both similarities and differences.
Peace be with you.
Yes, most. I had a position as an officer in the US Army when I was not in Vietnam that required I familiarize myself with customs, history, politics and religions of many countries in which we might operate to aide or suppress insurrections. This led to a deeper interest in religions in general and I studied many and perused most others -- ancestral to Baha'i to agnosticism to atheism. All but the later two have many similarities within three major divergent groups. The most prevalent religions in the West all derive many stories and their evolving dogmas from Sumerian beliefs for instance. This does not mean there are not major differences however or that there may be more credence in one than another ceteras paribus.
I'm on the path I'm on now after researching a variety of religions and yes there are a lot of similarities. You'd be surprised by the ones that can be drawn between Christian, Catholic, and Pagan. I just don't like the dogma behind organized religion and how organized religion expect people to believe without experience (among other things).
As a comparative theologian, yes, I have.
Similarities?
1) All require faith.
2) All require adherence to the tenets of the respective faiths.
3) All require some form of social interaction with the emphasis on helping those less fortunate.
4) All assert that they assist the believer in spiritual growth however they define it to be.
5) All have certain restrictions on the lifestyle of believers (moral behaviors).
6) All ask that some sort of alms be made directly to the leaders of that faith to be distributed by them in the name of that faith.
7) All have designated individuals whose calling is to minister to the adherents of that faith.
8) All accept the tenet that there exists, outside of and independent to, man, some sort of Deity or deities, whose existence is in every way superior to humans and who require humanity to follow the way of said Deity/deities in order to achieve true happiness.
9) All have some version of the original ethical and moral code as given by Hammurabi more than 4,000 years ago. We in the west know them best and most concisely by the term "the Ten Commandments". But all such codes can be summed up in the stricture - Do unto others ONLY what you would not mind them doing unto you!
10) All promise some form of joy if the tenets and strictures of the faith are met as closely as possible throughout the believer's lifetime and if lapses are made good by some form of restitution.
Hope this helped.
Yes I have done a few world religion studies it is good for me to know others for when I wittiness. Some have good morals some do not, there are things that are the same for sure in some ways, like belife in Prophets of God a form of angels. But at the important points no Christianity is set apart in major ways. My one example is Jesus Christ.
It is the only religion that has salvation from sin performed by God himself. All others are what Christians call works based. THey believe that in some way man himself can rectify his sinful nature through their good deeds. If you look you will see that all others foundation has a form of works to get you into heaven. True Christians understand that because we are sinners by nature any act we do will fall short of the glory of God.
Rom 3:10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:
I believe this to be true, that if I am a sinner nothing I can do is good enough for my salvation, not even my good works are clean in the eyes of God. He knows I am trying yes but still they fall short. If I had perfect works than I could redeem the world right, but I don't and I know it, no one does not one. But because God loves me as a true God does, he took care of that by his love.
"For God so loved the world he gave his only begotten Son"
That is the difference and that is the one that counts GOds selflessness in his love for me. Perfect love. Nothing else has claim to that nothing!
God bless :) Great Question.
