Colognes, hairsprays, shampoos, deoderants with scent often attract mosquitoes to you. I use unscented products.
Leave no standing water in dog dishes, plant pots, ditches...whatever...mosquitoes breed in standing water.
Cut your grass and weeds...mosquitoes cluster in the high grass.
Mosquitoes bite at dawn and sunset. Only the females need a blood meal to lay their eggs. Stay indoors at these times.

If you live out in the country, like on a farm you could burn dry cow dung; the smoke works wonders.

mosquitoes breed in stagnant water. If you want to get rid of them at the source, you should get rid of any stagnant water or items that could store stagnant water. You should check old vases, water storage containers, water drums, and the like. :)

Netting.
If that's not your thing: lemongrass repellant from Burt's Bees. Or citronella, lots of citronella (be careful of candles with risk of fire!)
