"Our time at Ft. Hood was spent getting medical exams, drawing required equipment, completing training and spending a few last precious days with our families. We departed from Ft. Hood on January 4, 2004. We arrived with our families at a designated building where we said our last goodbyes. The unit First Sergeant called formation and we formed up and marched out of the gym to waiting busses. It was a sad day for every one there. Soldiers and their loved ones during those final moments together shed many tears.

Our next stop was the Soldier Deployment Center where we were manifested onto our flight. Part of the manifest process was to weigh in with our equipment. I weighed 295 pounds with all my equipment on. I normally weigh around 210 pounds. We were provided snacks and entertainment while we waited. We boarded our assigned plane at Ft. Hood and began a twenty-four hour flight to Kuwait City, Kuwait."

Of course it depends on the plane and how many stops!

It took 23 hours to get back from Vietnam on a 707, however we got back one hour before we left!

I would expect on commercial flights that it might take a day depending on timing of connecting flights.
