I'm thinking of working for the IRS there. A temp job, I think.
I hope. Never been there. Never been anywhere near there.
I live in Texas now. Always wanted to see that part of the country.

Wow, that's a long ways to relocate for a temp job..

Holtsville is out on Long Island, about 50 miles from New York City. Because of its distance from NYC, it is at the fringes of suburbia. Pretty quiet out there (which some people might find boring). Long Island in general is a good place to live, but it's an expensive place. You might want to do some research into the costs of living vs. your expected salary to make sure you can make ends meet.

Also, make sure you got plans beyond that temp job. Being stuck in a place as expensive as New York without a job is not a good situation to be in.

yes the HQ for the IRS. Should be an acceptable white collar town. if only for a few months, you can leave at the end of your temp job.
Winter is coming and as a TExas person are you sure you want to deal with the cold and ice and storms of Long Island.
