Why are there no female Formula-1 drivers? Is it a rule perhaps?

It wouldn't be a rule. I just think there aren't as many women interested in becoming one. But there should be more...as women drivers are definitely the best!!!

There are no rules against it. Its just there are fewer women racing drivers overall. A few women have tried in the past. Im positive one or maybe even a few women have started a F1 race but were short lived careers. Whats to say there couldnt be a female F1 league? There is also a woman racing in Indy Car at the moment.

Women have been successful in motor-sport, but perhaps only a few. There were certainly some very good women drivers in the old classic days of Brooklands, when they managed to hurl two-ton monsters such as the Sunbeams around at 135mph.

There have been others successful in rallying, such as Pat Moss (the sister of Sterling Moss), Rosemary Smith and especially Michelle Mouton driving an Audi Quattro.

Devina Gelica used to drive Formula One, but I don't think she was ever that successful, even if she had to be very good just to be there.

I don't know if it isn't just the enormous physical strength and endurance required which eliminates women from the job, but I don't think anything is impossible;especially after watching Michelle Mouton beat some of the best men in a very powerful rally-car.

There are certainly no rules against women drivers in Formula One.

There just aren't many qualified women drivers. F1 drivers are in very serious competition. Most of them come from the GP2 series. There are no women currently in GP2 either. CHAMP series is kind of a pipeline, but the only women in that series is Katherine Legge, and personally, I think she has been a huge diappointment. I think that's too bad, too. I think that Legge is a MUCH better driver than Danica Patrick, but Legge hasn't been able to hook up with a good team, and hasn't been able to show that she needs a better team as opposed to needing to improve her skills. Don't look for Patrick to try to go to F1 either. She hasn't won a race since racing go-carts. Best she has done in the past 8 years is 2nd at the Formula Ford Festival, and a 3rd place finish in a Toyota Atlantic series race. It's pretty sad that she has so many fans when she hasn't won crap in years.

It's not that there aren't any for any real reason other than there aren't any qualified for it.

I think that there needs to be more female drivers in all types of racing. But for the most part, you have to be relatively monetarily inclined to be involved in racing, and really good at what you do. It seems that most females who are really good at racing still aren't good enough to hold their own with the guys, and the one's who are racing with the "big boys" are just good looking and mediocre. I think that women need to step it up and strive to be the BEST drivers period. Not just the best females.

It`s really simple women are just not strong enough, as a man you`d have to put me in a gym for three months before I could drive an F1 car. The argument about sponsorship doesn`t wash because any woman who was good enough would have sponsors falling over themselves.

No rule-but I can't really think of anyone who is qualified at this point. If Legge was more successful in Champ Car and had sponsors she could bring with her, then she would most likely be a candidate.
