"If we came from monkeys why are there still monkeys?"

Your intriguing question has whiskers, dear heart, which is to say, it's asked here three or four times every day--EVERY DAY the very same question. The answer, in brief, which I am thinking you know full well, is that our species, we flawed human beings, and apes (not monkeys) evolved from the same ape-like ancestor--starting many millions of years ago. Modern apes were decidedly different millions of years ago of course, and so were our part of the primate line of course of course of course of course. There's more, but between the two of us, the whole matter is damn boring. We did not evolve from monkeys--monkeys as they are now had not evolved yet.

We didn't "come from monkeys". Nowhere, in any of the valid, scientific literature dealing with Natural Selection, is there such a statement. If you are just trying to stoke the coal about the whole Evolution vs. Creationism debate, you fail miserably.

If you would like to debate this issue maturely and intelligently, I suggest that you spend a few months/years reading up on both sides of the argument. After you have done that, you will understand how this question exhibited a complete ignorance of the concept of Natural Selection.

There is this evolutionary theory called... ymm... punctuated equilibrium, and in that theory, we evolve in spurts due to catastrophic disasters that force us to evolve my means of survival. So for example, a volcano erupted and killed off a lot of monkeys, and the few monkeys who lived evolve because of the change in habitat even. So lets say the volcano erupted in the west of where ever, then the monkeys on the east of where ever are safe, and do not evolve. of course this is only a very, very simple possibility. Or WE didn't come from monkeys in the first place... dun dun dun.
