The Gospel is refereed to as the good news. The good news is man can be reconciled to a perfect God. God is righteous and man is not. The wages of sin is death and a perfect and merciful God came ot the world in the form of man Jesus Christ to pay the penalty of death for those who accept the atonement.

Jesus said to repent and believe in the gospel.
To repent requires one to acknowledge that they are sinful and need to get right with God. We need to turn away from our sin and turn to God.
The gospel is the good news. Jesus died on the cross to reconcile man to God. We are sinners unable to earn salvation. But Jesus paid the cost for our sins on the cross so that we don't have to. We can't earn our salvation, but we don't have to. Jesus took care of that. If we place our trust in Jesus and what He did for us we can be saved in a moment of time.
