My father has not been a part of my life since I was 8, I'm now 25. Luckily my mom didn't give me his last name but his name is on the birth certificate. Other than white out, can I legally have his name removed??? I was born in Los Angeles if that makes any difference.

I am sorry to hear that, i am not sure for your country in Australia you can't remove your birth father from your birth certificate unless he is proved not to be your biological father and even then, they only ammend the certificate! Sorry, maybe try not to focus on the birth certificate as much, it is really nothing more then a piece of paper and for all the times you use it, i find my drivers license is used for ID much more, good luck!

You can legally have his name removed from your birth certificate. It is very costly. Once done you will have broken your ties with your parental anscetors. That means if there ever comes a time that you want to find out where that side of your family's history you may have harder time finding out after your connection with them is broken.

I don't think you can. How often do you really look at your birth certificate though. The best thing you can do is not let it get to you.

I don't think you can. Whether you want him to be your father or not he still legally is. Consult a lawyer.

Why bother. I can understand EXACTLY how you feel and why you would want his name removed ( i am not very close with my father either )...but when it comes down to it, he is your father whether you want him to be or not- so just live with it. Who cares anyway, its just a document.

Anything's possible. It will probably take a lawyer, court, pain in the butt........but it's your cash.

sorry, he's still the sperm donor whether you like it or not. The only way to change it is to have someone adopt you. And you can be adopted at any age.
