I took a pregnancy test (over the counter) because my period is now about 5 days late. I have been off the pill for about a month now and I know that that could cause it to be irregular for about 6 months. But I am wondering if my test could have been a false negative from too much liquid from the test. I drank some water a while before, then about a half hour before I took it I drank about maybe 9 oz. I am just wondering if this could have resulted in an incorrect answer. How much liquid is too much before you take a test? I am also worried because on monday the 23th I am having a minor surgery, but I will need to take some medication to help me calm down and be less stressed and anxious. I am scared that if I am pregnant and they give me this medicine, that it will hurt the baby. Please only answer if you truly want to help and have advice that is backed up.

Drinking to much before taking a test can cause your urine to become diluted and dilute the levels of HCG in your system thats why they suggest using your 1st mornings urine because its sat in your bladder longer and is undiluted. I really don't know how much liquid it takes to dilute your urine though sorry. I'm not sure which test you used but I got this info from the Clearblue easy website and assume all tets are the same since they all work the same.

As for the surgery they should ask you if you suspect you are pregnant. If they don't tell them you think you may be.

Good luck!

It does not matter how much water, but, you should share your concern with the dr. just in case...better than to regret it later.
