Well, having never spoken to a member of the confederate army it'd be hard to say what they're reaction would be. As for myself however, I can't imagine it being all that big a deal. As it was both Mary and Jesus were of Hebrew decent and lived in the middle eastern part of the world, so their skin color would very likely have been dark anyway, though maybe not to the degree of being called black. Even if it was however, it would not change what Jesus did, which is surely more important to all His followers than what color his skin happened to be.

Again, the presumption that they existed in anything but the minds of man/men who created a religion. They are most certainly a black spot on the human condition. Confederates fought to maintain the status quo, they were not the source of the slavery perpetuated by the Africans themselves against their own kind. So they would not be shocked by the realization of biblical context that can have no proof beyond the 'Faith' of men - faith being the imagination.

They very well could have been black. Even now there are Jews who are called "Black Jews" because of their heritage and lineage. Nothing wrong with that.

I do find it fascinating (and yes I am being judgmental here -- I know it will come back at me, but ...) that the old testament insists we not make any image of God, and new testament followers choose to completely ignore this by hanging Christ on a cross in churches across the world, and hanging pictures of Him in their homes. This, I do not get. But nine times out of ten, He is white. Very interesting. Good question.

Jesus comes from a region where he could have been any color. There are people of so many different colors in that region. I think the reason we never get a description of what Jesus looks like from within the Bible or outside of it, is so that everyone in the world could claim Jesus and relate to Jesus no matter what they look like.

Inat, you do not know how Israelis looked at the time. He could have been black for all we know and there are other black Jews who are not converts besides Ethiopians. Jesus was described to have hair like wool. Blacks are the people mainly with hair like wool. They certainly didn't look like Ashkenazi Jews.

Africans are not Jewish (only some Ethiopians are) and J*sus was not black; he looked like all other Israelis of the time. Brown eyes, black hair, and an olive complexion.

Why all these questions about Jesus and God being black?

What difference could it possibly make?

It's more than likely they were very dark skinned being from that part of the world, quite middle eastern appearance. And certainly no Sun lotion...

Who's to say they weren't?

Oh that's right, it was the Europeans who invaded the Holy Land that told them, that they were not worthy of the Holy Land.

Same people right?
