I know nissan added $800 to the overall cost of the car when purchased new so I think I should be able to install it with used parts myself for around $300, I just don't know what I need - parts wise. Thanks.

Early ABS Maxima systems need correct inputs of speed sensors not included on your axles or drilled holes in the front steering knuckles or rear bearing hubs. That is the first big mess. Each sensor is a magnetic switch struts for ABS cars are different abs wire holders made on them and running additional 8 wires and shielding to the ABS actuator under the air filter. That is the second big mess. Next those brake hoses in the engine compartment look closely you almost have to remove the power train to fasten them down properly and the Actuator it self actually sits just above the transmission next to the starter motor. Third big mess. Your brake master Cly has 5 outlets ABS has two fourth big mess Now the Biggie Wiring harness has to be completely water tight Your engine control module and transmission control module are not ABS compatible Fifth big mess... I don't want to say it cannot be done. The average owner feels the ABS engage two or three times a year. Most the time they come running to the dealer complaining my brake did something wrong There was this noise the brake pedal shook? Sorry guy but you would have to spend more money than your car is worth. MANY of the parts needed for ABS are not included on maximas without ABS.

I know, the car really needs ABS not to mention traction control to cure the torque steer but it just isn't worth spending the money.

look dont get me wrong i'm no expert
but just because it cost $800 extra at new doesnt mean it was $800 for a part.
eg. normal brakes $2000 to install
......ABS brakes $2800 to install

the process you need to go through to have ABS is probably more than the cost of some small part

What john Paul Say's is very very true save your money. If you want some better breaking then get some slotted rotors.ceramic brake pads and steel hoses for your car that will help you out and its alot cheaper then what you wanted to do.Hope this helps

you would install them very carefully...i don't think breaks are something you want to instal already USED!!!! thats a pretty important part of the car...besides the components needed to start it..lol...but good luck!!! hope you survive your first crash when your breaks go out on you because you were a cheap a*s and wanted used parts!!

Your alternator is duff! It charges sometimes and when not, you are running the engine strictly on battery. Get it checked before this problem strands you.
