I recently read that the pagans are protesting over the Simpson painting in a field next to their sacred feature. They said they`d send rain to wash it away. So I think the pagans could be to blame for the floods, unless it`s just a coincidence! What do you think?

no, we pagans have no such power. If we did, we would have kept that half pint nincompoop out of the White House

If the "pagans" are to blame for the floods their aim is about as good as the Americans. At best well intentioned as worst misguided.
The thing that struck me most about the publicity stunt, and now I am speaking as a Pagan, is how amateur the work of character looks against the original. I personally don't have a problem with it if it raises awareness on some level.
The pubs were built next to the churches for a particular reasons, perhaps none of them sacred, but it had a certain practicality.
Oddly enough it makes Homer Simpson look all the more human to put him next to this primal effigy.
I'm a fan of the Cerne Abbot figure, but also of the Simpsons. I think they both have a place and something to teach us, whilst entertaining.
Do I think these Pagans have caused the recent floods, no. Do I think it is so offensive to see a more "human" image next to the great figure, actually I think it shows just how impressive it really is.
If they had tried to deface the figure that would be something else, but I think Homer is just paying homage.

Haha. Go European Pagans!

I dunno. It seems crazy that people keep messing with sacred sites like they have the last couple months. They'd never have done that to a cathedral. I'm sure the Pagans didn't mean to cause floods, but while spells can make things happen, nobody can control the nature of what happens in the end. You just let go, and Mother Nature does the rest.

Don't worry. It'll be over soon. A little rain never hurt anybody.
heh

This entire answer, by the way, was typed with humor. I don't know a single Pagan that didn't think that Homer stunt was funny as hell.

know this: the rain floods began happening in the north of England long before that ridiculous white figure of homer simpson was put on the hill next to that so-called sacred feature. Never mind blaming the pagans for the heavy rain falls. Pay more attention to what the weather forecast stated I mean it does standd to reason and logic..

I personally don't believe that the pagans are responsible for the floods. I know they were going to cast spells to send rain to wash the painting away, but my understanding of paganism is that any spells cast must not harm others. Therefore I do not believe it is their fault. It is a result of global warming, nothing less, nothing more.

OK. 1. MW, do some reading, pagans can't be influenced by Satan, that's a Christian belief! 2. sat liberation, pagans have a right to be unhappy about things, other faith's are quick enough to bitc* about things on this board they don't like/agree with. as for the question, get a grip of yerself, do you really think us pagans have that much influence over things??? but here's the real heads up. best get started on the next ark, we're really workin on flooding the world.

If I were a pagan I think I would be claiming authority over the rain, however it is really that twit Osama Bin Laden stomping his way over Afghanistan in fury at the useless attempts at blowing up the UK on the behalf of his followers.
He has stomped up such an anger cloud with his hissy fit that the UK is paying for it!

I am assuming your question is very much tongue in cheek. The comment from the representative of The Pagan Federation was taken out of context and meant to be judged with as much humour as the "Homer on the Hill" was.

Personally, as a Pagan, seeing Homer there just made me smile. I was impressed with the skill used to create it there!

I think it's just down to global warming. Unless pagan's are the only pollutants on earth, you can't really blame them. I also doubt their ability to bring rain. This is Britain, you don't have to wait very long for a downpour.

If some mythical being/god/devil or whatever was magical enough to cause it to rain like it has recently to wash away Homer Simpson, then he/she/it must be clever and strong enough to localise whatever punishment he/she/it has in mind and direct it at the source instead of flooding the whole of the damn country in the hope of getting a `hit.` - either that or his/her/it`s aim isn`t very good - and who wants a god/being/devil that cannot aim straight??
Besides, I always thought that Homer Simpson was god anyway, he is certainly clever enough!!

Your not serious are you ?

We live on a planet precariously reliant on a small bandwidth of conditions to survive.

The sun is a major factor in weather patterns. Sunspots.

Global warming is a by product of sunspot activity. A deluge in real terms is nothing. Very inconvenient for humans but all the same insignificant in cosmic terms. Why do we all think the end is nigh when small blips occur in nature ?
