I am trying to help a friend get her driver's license. Unfortunately, she doesn't have a car and I'm flying in from out of the state. I'm trying to see if I could borrow a car from another friend of mine. If not, is there a place I can borrow a car from for the purpose of taking the driver's license test? If so, does anyone know how much this is gonna cost?

Thanks

U can take any car that you have proof of insurance on. Remember that.

Other than that, you problem lies in getting a rental car. Usually, most rental places doesn't allow for anyone under 25 to rent a car. If so, then they will charge very large fees for people above 18.

While there is no legal bar to doing that, most rental contracts restrict operation of the vehicle to properly licensed drivers. Although the driver supervising the student driver is legally responsible for the safe operation of the vehicle, most rental contracts specifically exclude use of the vehicle for driving instruction or when the person in the driver's seat only holds a learner's permit. You may have better luck with a small local rental outfit. The majors like Hertz and Avis all ban the operation of the vehicle by a student driver.

I highly doubt any rental agency is going to rent a vehicle out for a driver test. Part of the rental agreement is the car is only to be driven by a licenced driver of the minimum age specified by their insurance company. Don't even try it unless the agency has assured you in advance, in writing, that it is a permissable use, or you could have a huge bill if there is an accident during the test.

If you're allowed to use a rental car, I'd suggest you get it at least several days prior to the drivers test. She needs to be well familiar with the car before taking her test. Knowing where all the controls are, and how they function is a part of the test too.

I'm unaware of the laws for your state so I'll just use mine as reference. In NYC they require the owner of the car to drive you to the road test site and if necessary, they would check for registration but they usually don't.

If you can't get a car from a friend, renting one usually wouldn't be a problem. Be sure to bring your receipt incase they want to look at the ownership of the car. Renting a car isn't expensive. For a standard car they usually cost about $30 a day.
