My daughter has two keloids, one on her earlobe (it looks like a little egg), and the other was caused by a fall that scarred her knee.

The one on her ear, I had removed over a year ago, but it came right back. Though now it is bigger.

What should I do? I tend to get over protective because I do not want her to get scraped, fall or get injuries. Since her skin does not heal well. I do not want her to be self conscious, because with girls it is all about the "looks."

Thanks in advance, for any responses.

In most cases surgery can make things worse with keloids (excision of keloids has been associated with a 55% recurrence rate.) Have you tried steroid injections, laser therapy or something else (e.g. cryotherapy)? It's very important that you try to prevent keloids in the future. Try not to get injured and avoid surgery. If you get injured use silicone sheeting (e.g. Cica Care) or gel (e.g. Strataderm, Dermatix) to prevent keloids; the likelihood of abnormal scar formation can be reduced effectively, if treatment starts shortly after wound closure.

Actually, keloids happen because the person has a very good immune system...it "overproduces" tissue over the injury.
The only treatment for it is surgery. It should not reoccur
in the same place.
I hope you had it done by an excellent plastic surgeon.
If not, find one, so she will not be self-concious about them as she gets older

I had mine treated with removal and injection of a corticosteroid (forget the specific name of the med). Below is a website from Wikipedia with a lot of good information on the problem. Good luck with it.
