i am afraid all options are possible. Treatments for cancers all have various levels of success or indeed failure, the disease can often progress even during treatment.

If the cancer was in the form of a single tumor and it was removed, any recurrence would be after a long time. If it was in the form of multiple tumors and not all of them were removed, or if part of a single tumor was left behind, the recurrence could occur within a shorter time. If a single tumor metastasized (i.e., the cancer cells broke away from the main tumor and got into the lymph system or the bloodstream and ended up in another organ), the recurrence could happen within a short time after the original tumor was removed.

100% Cancer cells can not be destroyed even after surgery, chemotherapy and Radiotherapy. If 1 % of malignant cancer cells remain in the same site or any where in the body, it may grow with vengeance soon after the treatment is over.
Please see the web pages for more details on Cancer and Google search on Recurrence of cancer.
