For health reasons (not necessarily to lose weight) I need to cut back on the amount of fat and cholesterol in my diet. I know the part about laying off things like pizza and fried foods, and eating more fruits and veggies - what I really need is tips or advice to help me adjust emotionally and psychologically to a new manner of eating. It's only been a few days, and I feel so hungry all the time - I don't know how I can stick to this, and I know that I have to. My health is at stake.

Thanks to all who respond.

Eat more protein - it will make you feel full longer.
When you cut out certain foods of your diet it takes 3 days for your body to adjust and get over it, after those first days it get a lot easier.
I use cooking spray instead of oil, boil meat or grill it or put in the oven, i havent used oil for years.
Eat 5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day.
Drink at least 8 glasses of water a day.
Eat complex carbs instead of simple ones - old fashioned oatmeal, whole wheat breads/pita/wraps, wild and brown rice, whole wheat pasta etc.
go to shape.com community - they have great forums (diet, workout, recipes, success stories, struggle stories etc)

Hey there,

First of all, be wary of those who say all fat is evil. Fat is essential. Fish oil, for example, contains important fatty acids. You need your Omega 3s, 6s, and 9s.

Grapeseed oil is also a healthy and delicious way to have some fat.

Also, low seratonin levels are implicated in out-of-control appetites/cravings. You might want to look into 5-htp to normalize your seratonin levels. It is also great for depression, if that's an issue for you. St John's Wort is also great.

You may also be interested in the following ideas:

Try a nice Hoodie complex (Hoodie, green tea, cocoa.) It helps curb and normalize the appetite to help keep you in control. No jitters or anything.

Drink plenty of green tea or white tea. It also curbs appetite. I've recently started drinking white tea and it's great. Very light flavor. I drop it in a bottle of water, add a bit of stevia (see below), and drink it down -- yes, with the tea floating loose. It's quite tasty.

Stevia. STEVIA!!! You'll never go back to sugar again! And you 'll never poison yourself with artificial sweeteners again! Stevia is an herb used for thousands of years in South America and Africa.

I suggest NOW Brand Stevia glycerite liquid or a similar brand with a very high rebaudiana content. Cheaper brands of the liquid or powder contain components of Stevia that can leave a bitter aftertaste. But the NOW brand (and another Canadian brand) use the non-bitter components of the plant exclusively. (They're more expensive because the non-bitter components are a small percentage of the plant.)

I also suggest getting the big 8 OZ bottle.

Whereas you can find a 2 OZ bottle of NOW Stevia in a health food store for maybe $9 - $12, you can find the 8 OZ bottle online on places like iherb . com for $11.99.

Stevia is highly concentrated, so a few drops will do you. So an 8 oz bottle will last you quite a while. And it quickly dissolves in drinks, cereal, etc.

Remember to drink plenty of water! A healthy formula for figuring out how much to drink: Take your weight in pounds. Divide in half. That number is how many OUNCES to drink.

For example:

200 lbs. Divide in half = 100 ounces

150 lbs = 75 ounces.

Keep enjoying tea. Keep enjoying walking. Keep ENJOYING healthy food. Make it all about feeling good and healthy and enjoying life. It's not drudgery. It's about feeling good.

Good luck!

Hi,

I've tried so many different diets in the last 10 years that I can say now, they don't work!
A few months ago, I came across a great product for weight loss and like many others I was skeptical about it. But I really wanted to lose weight and I tried it. The results were excellent and I lost 20 pounds in 2 months. I felt fantastic and I dropped another 5 pounds safely. That's why I recommend you check this product at
http://www.getgoinfo.info where they have a free trial and you only pay 6.99$ shipping and handling.
Good luck!

It always takes a process. I've been with chips and soda until my health starts to complain already... so what I do, I try to remove little by little. I started eating this for just once a week or maybe twice a week..depends on which works.. the trick is, remove it slowly until you have finally got rid of it.. So maybe you can eat pizza or fried food for like twice a week only and then once a week and then maybe just eat it during dinner of that day only... just be patient with yourself and of course if you feel like eating one within the week and its not in its schedule.. drink lots and lots of water..
