Well don't run up to him and beg in a pleading voice, "Would you go to the movies with me, please, please, pretty please?"
Just ask in a normal manner. Why would that seem desperate? Are you desperate? Why should you be?
He might say no. Then just ask someone else. The people who have the most successes are also the people with the most failures. They just try more times!

Get a couple of friends to go to the movies and just ask him...hey have you seen the movie "......" and if he says now, you should be like, "oh a couple of my friends are going to see it, you should come with us." if he says yes, then you go! movies is good if you're kinda shy..that way after the movies you have something to talk about and you find out what he likes. You dont have to envite him to the movies...maybe a party or amusement part....where you can have fun. good luck

there is no good way to 'technically' ask a guy out without seemin desperate. maybe durin a casual conversation, throw in a 'hey, you wanna git a coffee?' or 'howd you like to join me for lunch?' play it smooth...be subtle about it.

OK some one did this to me and i worked pretty good. okay well me and her was talkingg and after talkin for a wile we got on the subject of people we would date well she was asking me if i would date these people (she was just naming people) and she asked if i would date her.and her being a very pretty girl i said yes and she was like will u date me. so that's how she did it hoped it helped

Umm, get into a conversation then ask him? You won't seem desperate if you say it real nice and say it real nice and slow.

Don't be afraid of appearances. Just because you ask someone out, it doesn't mean desparation. Guys do it all the time. So relax. Just ask him out.
