Do you mean the DLAB? Defense Language Aptitude?

When I took it, it was based on an invented language. The test gives you rules of grammer and sentence construction, some vocabulary, then asks you questions based on those. The idea is how quickly you can pick up a foreign language (but by using a fake one, nobody gets an advantage by having familiarity with it).

It was one of the most enjoyable tests I've ever taken, very fun.

Here's more info about it, including study tips: http://usmilitary.about.com/cs/joiningup/a/dlab.htm

The Defense Language Aptitude Battery is a test that you CANNOT study for. It is based on a fake language and tests your knowledge of sentence structure, grammar and the like.

currently in order to be given a slot as a CTI you MUST score at least a 100, as the Navy is ONLY taking new CTIs than can qualify for the highest category language(Farsi, Arabic, etc).

There are 2 tests the military gives for language assessment.
DLAB (Defense Linguistic Aptitude Battery) and DLPT (Defense Linguistics Proficiency Battery).
DLAB tests your ability to learn a new language.
DLPT test your proficiency in a language.

DLAB is based on a made up language, listening to slight variable in the pronounciation, and things like that.

DLPT can be ordered for specific language, this also gives you college credits depending on how well you do on the test. It includes a reading comprehension and listening portion for the test.
