...I am new to this site. I answered a question a few days ago and I wrote a bit more than a few words. Sometimes I give a quick answer, but this was something I am pretty knowledgeable about and I gave more info than the person wanted. When they chose "best answer" (there were only two) this person thanked the other person for not "blabbing" off topic. I thought that was rude and unnecessary. Is that how people normally treat each other here or did I just get stuck with a jerk (or jerk-ess)? Comments?

Sorry you had this happen to you ~ most people on this site are friendly and nice, but there are also a lot of jerks (and jerkesses, lol).

It's a big site and it attracts the weirdos as well as the nice folks. Don't get too worried about them, why give them the satisfaction :-)

I write long answers quite often. I figure, if someone puts it up on the board, I can answer it the way I want. If they don't want to read it, that's their choice. If they respond rudely, that's also their choice.

Just have fun and enjoy yourself ~ even if the asker didn't like your answer, someone may have read it and found just what they wanted to know :-)

Best wishes and have fun :-)

Well the same thing happened to me. I answered a question about wedding invites and the person totally misunderstood what I said and wrote me a very rude and hateful email. I think people should just accept the answers with some dignity. Hey, they are open to the public so they must expect some answers that perhaps they don't agree with. But to answer with such hate is sad.

I wouldn't take it personally. I think that a lot of people on here have pretty short attention spans.

I have found that most people are genuinely nice and trying to be helpful. Lighten up and don't let the jerks bug ya!

I just got a private email from an asker who called me an "***" and a "homegirl" .. Frankly, I'm not even sure what question he was referring to! LOL But I really don't think as a 53 year old professional married woman that I'm a "homegirl" hehehe

I wrote back a polite answer asking which question he was referring to so that I could explain my answer ... or continue to believe that the asker was really wanting to be um, belittled.

If you are new here .. get used to it .. its part of the fun! LOL

You probably got answered by someone who was just not into lengthy answers.
Don't take this experience as a way that we all are.
Like everything in life there is good and bad as there are rude and polite.
I myself personally have yet to come across someone that was rude to me in here.
I do give lengthy answers sometimes also when I know what I am talking about and even a little extra help if needed.

Sorry you got treated this way. Some people don't seem to understand that when they ask a question they may not always like the answer. Not everybody is this way. Don't let one person ruin your yahoo experience. Try not to take things personally. Just let it slide and not worry about small things that don't really matter.

i am sorry that someone was rude to you. Most of the people that ask and answer questions are very smart and polite caring people. Don`t let this person spoil your experience of answering questions. We all appreciate people like you and value you. I like the persons answer that said to delete your answer then the jerk looks like he only got one answer to his question.

Answers can be a surprisingly hostile space. From time to time you will come across some crab who thinks that your sincere, truthful, directed answer makes you an idiot. It used to frustrate the hell out of me when I first started answering, but now I just slough it off. People in general want short answers, simple answers, direct answers, and answers that indicate you agree with the answer they already have in their head. You can't always give them what they want.

You got stuck with a jerk...lol. But still be aware that there are tons of jerks here. Sometimes people simply want no more than what they ask.

So sorry about the rude comment, Sometimes people lash out when you don't state what they want to hear. Funny isn't it? How we will ask perfect strangers for answers, and then lash out at the ones we don't agree with? (Not all of us, but it does happen)
