It is way too hard to read the old version and somebody said that whoever wrote it meant to say "though shall not commit murder" instead of "though shall not kill". so is there a version of it that is in modern english? otherwise I might as well not waste my time and do something more useful.

New International Version (NIV)
New American Standard Bbile (NASB)
Christian Holman Standard Version (CHS)
English Standard Version (ESV, but this one is bit more British English than American English)
Depends on what you want out of it. Smooth, easy reading comes with the price of less word-for-word translation (NIV and CHS, for example). More literal word-for-word translation also comes with a price--choppy, hard to follow all the pronoun references, awkward grammar (NASB and ESV, for example).

THere are several. Try the New Living Translation for a really good one, or the New International Version.

There are a lot of good ones. I suggest The New King James,The Living Bible,The Good news Bible,The new American Standard Bible, not the NIV no good.

get "the book" it is actually the new living translation and you should be able to understand that better although i should say it is for reading. if you move on to studying the bible you will need to move to the king james version and get a good hebrew/greek concordance to look up original meanings of words.
