You have to have a big variety in your diet otherwise you are not gona be able to stick to it.
you cant look at diet as something you "go on" - to get permanent results you have to make permanent changes in your lifestyle (diet and exercise).
Foods you can find in any food market - whole grains like old fashioned oatmeal, Kashi cereals, whole wheat breads/pita/wraps, brown and wild rice, whole wheat pasta etc, lean meats like turkey and chicken breast, healthy fats like nuts, nut butters and avocados, fruit and veggies, egg whites or egg beaters, milk products like cottage cheese, milk, yogurts, soy products like tofu and soy milk, snacks like 60cal puddings, 100cal popcorn packs, dried fruit, dark chocolate (over 70% cocoa), rice cakes and soy crisps.
Learn to read labels (nutrition info) - look for more protein and dietary fiber and less fats, carbs (especially sugars), cholesterol and sodium. Look at serving sizes and figure out how many calories are in one serving and in a whole thing.
Since weight loss is all about calories in vs calories out you have to count calories you eat every day (dont count calories burned doing exercises - its pointless and unprecise).
to learn how many calories a day you need find daily calorie intake calculator on the net - take 300-500cal off the maintenance number and you will get how many calories a day you need to eat to lose weight.
diet alone is not good enough - you have to do cardio which is the only fat burning exercise 4-6 times a week for average of 45min.
and drink lots of water.
web sites that will help you - fitday.com and shape.com (community - they have different forums)

stay away from cokes.
Buy veggies/fruits/water.
On meats, buy white meat chicken (dark meat has the most fat), fish, thin slices of pork chops (pork chops have less fat then steaks).
Grill the chicken or cook in 1 tbl spoon vegetable oil,
same for pork chops.
And limit intake.
brown rice instead of white rice.
Wheat bread instead of white bread
Corn tortillas instead of flour tortillas.
Make salads and add cilantro and/or green onions for flavor and a dash or two of salt and garlic powder, add lemon juice for a zestier taste.
Walk 3-4 times a week for 30 minutes each time at a fast pace. AND eat within ONE hour after walking cause you will still be burning calories for that full hour.
