That's a pretty complex question.

Before Jesus came into the world, the only way to be forgiven sins was through sacrifice--an unblemished sacrifice, the cream of the crop. People had to follow the law exactly. This was impossible and a gap between God and man was made. God sent Jesus to be the ultimate and final unblemished sacrifice--the best blood atonement becaues He was the only person ever without sin. When he died on the cross, all the sins of the world then and to come were placed on Him. That sin died with Him. As Jesus said, "It is finished." The law was fulfilled completely and perfectly. When He rose from the dead, He conquered death so that those that choose to follow Him could have forgiveness and eternal life.

Jesus' mission was to establish the kingdom of heaven on earth. A part of that mission was to restore humanity's relationship with God so that (1) we can become citizens of the kingdom and so we can (2) ambassadors to the kingdom. All of Jesus' parables pointed to the kingdom of God and simplified how it's systems work. Jesus didn't come saying "Repent, 'cause y'all going to hell!" he said "Repent, for the kingdom of God is at hand."(Matthew 3:2, 4:17) When you read the synoptic gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John) you will find mention of the kingdom over 100 times. Everything that Jesus did from birth to death to resurrection, pointed to the arrival of the kingdom. Jesus proclaimed the gospel, set the captive free, tore the veil, died to save our souls, fulfilled the law, etc. all so that he could establish his Father's kingdom.

People have made Christianity a religion but Jesus condemned the religious people of his day for being religious and for hindering those who were trying to enter the kingdom.

The three key objectives of Christ's mission:

1) Destroy the power of evil by bringing an end to Satan's earthly dominion.

2) Provide all that was necessary to reconcile sinful mankind with God.

3) Establish the Kingdom of God on the earth ... which is truly, visibly and continually present in the Church ... to lead all generations to salvation ... in Jesus' name.

Jesus mission was two fold.
1) To Sanctify or make Holy, his fathers name, Jehovah. Clearing it from the reproach and shame brought on by imperfect mankind as well as to prove that a perfect man, like Adam was, could have stayed faithful under extreme trial.
2) Was to provide a Ransom, or a release for mankind to have a good relationship with Jehovah, like Adam had before he lost it.

understand it to be a three prong mission.

1. to take the full penalty of the law upon Himself.

2. to establish a new covenant between God and Man

3. to offer the way to have a right relationship between mankind and God.

In the first recorded speech Jesus gave, he quoted a prophesy in isaiah: "He came to bring freedom to the captives." The 'captives' would be mankind, ad individuals and as a people: bound up in sin, racism, pride, addictions, pain and bitterness, resentments and hate, even insanity.

"Salvation" (the promise of everlasting live in heaven after we die) is only the first bite - freedom is what he brings and that begins NOW, in this life.

That is his mission - read the passage in Luke chapter 4:
---
He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up; and as was His custom, He entered the synagogue on the Sabbath, and stood up to read. The book of the prophet Isaiah was handed to Him. He opened the book and found the place where it was written,
THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD IS UPON ME,
BECAUSE HE ANOINTED ME TO PREACH THE GOSPEL TO THE POOR. HE HAS SENT ME TO PROCLAIM RELEASE TO THE CAPTIVES, AND RECOVERY OF SIGHT TO THE BLIND, TO SET FREE THOSE WHO ARE OPPRESSED, TO PROCLAIM THE FAVORABLE YEAR OF THE LORD."
He closed the book, gave it back to the attendant and sat down; and the eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on Him. He began to say to them, "Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing."
---
Sorry to paste in a quote, but you can better see the power in his own proclamation of his purpose and mission.

You were born phsycally, but dead spiritually.
It took Christ to die for your sins, your disobedience to God, to reclaim you as his child.

This is called being reborn, cause the wage of sin is death.
We were meant to live forever, but because of sin, we die mortal men. But if we accept Jesus at his word, by his word, and thru his word, we are his again, spiritually.

If its vague to you, attempt to reread the NT, many of the books touch on this very subject.
Romans, Corithianians etc.

we must understand Israel in the O.T. in order to understand Christ N.T.

Jesus Christ is the New Israel and perfectly fullfilled God's law. For example, Israel was led into the desert by the Spirit after the exodus, but distrusted in God and rebelled many times. Jesus was led into the desert by the Spirit, but resisted the Devil's tempations and remained faithful to God.

Jesus came to establish the new and eternal covenant with God by his passion, death, and ressurection. By shedding his most precious blood, our sins are forgiven when we repent. Jesus also established God's kingdom on earth, the Church. God bless.
