Your cable or satellite tv provided must broadcast in HD for any HD equipment to work. Even then directv only offers a handful of HD signals (even though they've been advertising for over two years that 150 HD channels are coming soon). It's a chain thing, the channel (such as FOX or TBS) need to broadcast in HD, then your cable/satellite company must transmit their signals in HD, then you must have a HD receiver and a HD tv or other HD equipment. A HD tv will not be in HD unless all these things are in place.

By the way, believe it or not, if you live in a major city and have local channels that broadcast in HD you can get their HD signals with an old fashioned attenna and a HD tv, direct from the horses mouth. This is a high definition answer, worth 10 points?

The PS3 has a HDMI 1.3, which is the new version, so your TV might be outdated. And no, you wouldn't get HD picture unless you paid the cable company for the HD channels, the PS3 games would be in HD though and so would the Blu-ray movies.

HDMI inputs are just the best way to get a HD signal into a TV. If you use one to connect a PS3 to the TV it will give you the best picture the TV can produce in full HD.

If you have a PS3, and a TV w/ HDMI inputs, all you need is a HDMI cables to connect the 2 for HDTV signal. You could use component cables, but HDMI is a little better and cleaner.

HDMI is just like a normal video cable.
they just support full HD signals.
and not you don't have to have HD from your cable company.

if you have a PS3, get a HDMI cable and connect it to your HDTV. you'll get a full 1080p HD signal.

and buy some blu ray disk movies(your PS3 can play it) and enjoy the full HD picture. they look amazing.

You cannot get HD signals through your peripherals if you don't have HDMI cables
