Is it really how bad there?

The facilities on the base are pleasant enough. Depending on the threat level, security measures can be a pain. It's unpleasantly hot there all summer. I was last there in 2000 so I can't speak to any recent policies or restrictions that he might find especially difficult but to my knowledge Incirlik's still far better than most places there in southwest asia.

We had ready access to e-mail but phones were somewhat limited.

Do you mean, Alberta Canada, and the country, Turkey? I'm Canadian, so if you mean Alberta, yes, I'm sure he's doing great there. Also, Turkey. My son just arrived back from a month long stay. He LOVES Turkey. A wonderful, warm, beautiful, country with loving, family oriented people.
