My little sister is such a mama's girl and when my mom tries to go out with her boyfriend and mom leaves her alone with me she mopes and cries sometimes almost to the point of throwing up. She's 6 years old and this behavior has me on my last nerve.

When she does this there is almost nothing I can do to make her stop unless I bribe her with the promise that she can call mom's cell phone. And when she's alone with me she won't leave me alone (not even to go to the bathroom)

How can I make her more independent?

I'm not saying she should be totally independent. Just to the point she can be alone for a few minutes.

She is a little girl. She is crying out for attention and is clearly feeling insecure. And you, I don't know how old you are, but you clearly have to much responsibility. Your mother needs to be made aware of this situation and she is the one who needs to handle it and make sure your litttle sister feels happy and secure.

Before your mom decides to go out with her boy toy she needs to think about her little girl at home. She comes first!

She's 6! She should NOT be independent. She should be dependent. This does not say how old you are. For some reason this little girl is insecure. When, and only when, she feels secure will this behavior stop.

Bless your heart you've got to much responsibility. Make sure your mom is aware of this. I am sure she's the one who will want to handle it.

Play a game with her that could be for one or two players....at some point when it's convenient, excuse yourself and see if she will play the game on her own...it may take time, but keep it fun bevasue she really wants attention.
