To Beetleful BC? The pine beetle has munched its way through most of the pine trees in BC, and is now working on the spuce trees. Forests of standing dead pine, dried out, just waiting for a fire that is going to be impossible to control.

Its also headed into Alberta and it wont be long before all of NA is devestated and all the forests gone, if it isnt stopped.

In your opinion is this going to have the huge impact on tourism that I think it is? Never mind destroying the forest industry and the economy, the water sheds, fish habitat, causing more flooding and slides etc.

How many people are attracted to visiting Canada because of the forests and mountains and beautiful scenery? If that is all gone would you feel there is no reason to visit Canada?

Explorer, the pine beetle is devouring and killing all of the lodge pole pine trees in BC. At the rate it's going, by 2014 a lot of the forested areas in BC will be dead.

That is what Isotope is talking about. She is not American and she's not being derogatory. It's a serious problem.

Right now Alberta is cutting a huge space between the two provinces in order to try to cut the bugs off at the pass so to speak. They are planting different trees as the pines die but they won't grow fast enough to take their place for a lot of years yet.

I don't think anyone will know the full impact for years to come. :(

You are a bit late. The Liberal Government already changed it. We are now "The Best Place on Earth" Which I think is conceded, and not a very good tourist slogan. I am just glad I got my new license plate last year before the new ones came out. Your issue is a good example of stuff they are trying to make us forget with the new slogan.

I don't think it will effect tourism though, not for about 20 years. Actually when a place is first effected, there is nothing more beautiful. Until you realize it is a dying forest. I flew over infected areas 10 years ago. It seems to me that it is another sign of changing weather patterns as we have waited year after year for one old fashioned early deep freeze to wipe them out and it never happens. So, it is only one of many changes that could be coming.
