Hello Gibert W
This very matter came upon be about a year and a half ago. It would not leave my troubled mind. I sought out to study upon this and the more I learned, the more confused I became. I had to abandon the cause. Still it would not leave me. I began to study the Seventh Day Adventists and then the Seventh Day Baptists. Still I reached no answer.
Over the course of the 1 1/2 years, this has haunted me. I diligently prayed about this and then I researched some more. Finally I had an answer. Just this morning, while looking through some books, I found my notes. It is an exhaustive list but I will try to summarize it for you.
Citing 1st Timothy 3:15 as the authority for doing so, the Catholic Church changed it at the Council of Laodicea.
This is how the verse reads:
"But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God,which is the church of the living God,the pillar and ground of the truth."
The lay Christians went along with this to set themselves apart from the Jews. By the time the Reformation occured the change had been in place for several centuries and the Protestants felt powerless to change it, EVEN THOUGH, the Protestant leaders recognize that Saturday is the Sabbath.
The Catholic Church does not deny this, in fact, it reads to me as though they are proud of having done it. Likewise, the Protestant leaders, rather than try and right the wrong, try to cover it up--hiding behind some of the very reasons that have been given you today.
It was the CEREMONIAL law that Jesus overcame. The commandments are part of the MORAL law. There is also CIVIL law. Surely, no one suggests that Jesus done away with "Have no other Gods" or "Honor your mother and father" etc........
Acts 20:7 is often offered in validity for Christians to accept the change. This is what it says:
And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to BREAK BREAD, Paul preached to them............"
to break bread means to eat --it does not imply to worship. Paul was about to embark upon a journey, it may have been a special service for them, but nowhere in the passage does it indicate they approved of a Sabbath change.
I will leave you with a final scripture from Daniel 7:25
And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to CHANGE TIMES AND LAWS and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of times.
I have much, much more if you care to email me.

I agree!
Yea the Sabbath is on Saturday. They let the pastor and priest lie to them about the truth about the Sabbath. The Sabbath has never change! Christian were persecuted for their belief in the Sabbath back in the early times....
Christian say the Jews are suppose to follow the Sabbath and we are under the New Convent so we worship the first day BUT God bless the 7th day before any human was on Earth (Genesis 2:3).
Christian say they gather on the 1st day (Acts 20:7) BUT people misinterpret the verse and write it down wrong too on here. Its UPON THE FIRST DAY Meaning before Sunday. Then did God say he was going to switch the day b/c hes the only who can reverse what HE said (Numbers 23:20.), not Paul which he did keep the sabbath ( Acts 17:2).
What would Jesus do?
In John 15:10 Jesus said "I have kept my father's commandments" and we can also find from scripture that Jesus attended church on the Sabbath day. "And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read." Luke 4:16
He would worship on the Sabbath!
Does it matter how we worship God?
Yes. In John chapter 4 the woman at the well asked Jesus the same question. Jesus responded: "the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth." John 4:23-24.
But isn't it very dangerous to tamper with God's law?
Changing Sabbath to Sunday is an insult to God because it attempts to alter His divine law.
"Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish aught from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the Lord your God." Deuteronomy 4:2. "Every word of God is pure. ... Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar." Proverbs 30:5, 6.
God has specifically and positively forbidden men to change His law by deletions or additions. To tamper with God's holy law in any way is one of the most fearful and dangerous things a person can do.

In the New Testament, nine of the Ten Commandments were repeated (Mark 10:19, Luke 18:20, Rom. 13:9). The only commandment not repeated was to "Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy" (Ex. 20:8). The early Christians met on the first day of the week (Matt. 28:1, Mark 16:2,9, Luke 24:1, John 20:1, 19, Acts 20:7, I Cor. 16:2) probably because, 1) Sunday was the day of the Lord's resurrection, 2) the six post resurrection appearances were on Sunday, and 3) the Holy Spirit came on Sunday. Rev. 1:10 called Sunday the Lord's Day. And, in scripture, the number eight is always used to mean "new beginning," i.e. -- eight people on the Ark, etc.
But more than anything, it's not what day you choose to rest that concerns God, it's why you do it in the first place (I Sam. 16:7).

Could you quote the passage or verse from the New Testament where we are commanded to keep the Sabbath? Do you know why the Jews kept the Sabbath? God commanded it in recognition of the day of rest from His creation, the seventh day, which in the Jewish calendar, was Saturday. It was the token or sign of the Mosaic law. The sign of the New Covenant was the resurrection. Hence we worship on Sunday, in remembrance of the resurrection and the New Covenant which began when He rose from the dead.
Mar 2:27 And He said to them, The sabbath came into being for man's sake, not man for the sabbath's sake.
Mar 2:28 So then the Son of Man is Lord of the sabbath also.

Christianity observes the "Lord's Day"....the day Jesus Christ rose from the tomb rather than the "Sabbath" which is really the Jewish worship day.
Christ Himself told the Pharisee that the Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. There are many places in the New Testament after the Gospels showing that "on the first day of the week, when the disciples gathered to break bread" to be the new day of worship for the new Christians. To break bread was to have worship service such as a mass or eucharist.... not simply a meal.
Sunday worship was instituted in the very beginning by 1st century Christians and disciples.

In truth according to the bible, sabath day is not on saturday or sunday and it is anyday at the 7th day of continuous working for one week because sabath is a resting day. The Jehovah witness or the 7th day adventist and any other religions has misinterpreted this matter. This was the commandment o God however. it was modified b y Jesus Christ during his time. The sabath day is only during the time of Moises which was addressed to the Israel people. The catholics also made it as Sunday. Worship but it can be done any day of the week not only Sunday or saturday

The Sabbath Law along with the other 613 Laws of Moses were cancelled by Jesus when they were nailed to the tree, that is nailed to the cross.
You can read about that in Colossians chapter 2.
At least since Acts 20 and verse 7 Christians have usually been meeting on the first day of the week.

Ahhh that's an exciting one. in accordance to Jewish custom he Sabbath is on Saturday needless to say in hebrew it particularly isn't any longer stated as Saturday. Our names for the days of the week come from latin for various heavenly bodies (the english translation isn't as obtrusive as romance languages inclusive of french. spanish, italian). Monday (moon day), Tuesday (Mars Day), Wednesday (Mercury Day), Thursday (Jupiter Day), Friday (Venus Day), Saturday (Saturn's Day), Sunday (solar Day). notice that maximum of those additionally are Roman God's. contained for the era of the Early Roman Catholic Church Saturn became a enormously worshiped God and it became desperate to alter the Sabbath to Sunday because of the fact the solar wasn't a god and became extra suitable for to worship on an afternoon that wasn't named after another god. needless to say the names are of days are merely labels that are arbitrary in nature. in actuality the calander has been replaced lots of circumstances that the genuinely days of the week have been shifted. yet another exciting factor approximately worshipping the God Saturn. The social gathering we now call Christmas became unique Saturnalia. The social gathering became coopted via the early church for conversion. considering that no person particularly knows of while Jesus became born (textual content interior the bible recommend it wasn't in the process the wintry climate) it became undemanding to assert he got here approximately to be born at a time of many pagan gala's like Saturnalia have been celebrating the equinox.

lifeonloan and Eric T have some great answers. I couldn't have said it better. In addition it all comes down to that fact that people just don't understand. They are not diligent enough in God's word to grasp the whole meaning of what God wants for us. Most people go by what there pastor says or what other church members say. They don't take the time to study for themselves.

Because all of the commandments, statutes, ordinances, and laws of the old testament were temporary, and they were never capable of saving anyone.
They were all replaced by the grace of the new covenant in Christ's blood, and by the authority God gave to his very own new covenant, universal church.
Jesus saves. Not the law. Not ANY law.
