I think that some sexist men would like to think it's a mans game. But smart women exploit this attitude and some make millions.
Poker is a thinking game. It is psychological warfare with some math thrown in. Any intelligent person can become a good player with the right discipline, study, practice and effort.
I think that making assumptions based on gender can be a very costly mistake at the poker table.
Thanks to the popularity of poker these days, more and more women are getting involved in the game, and I think it's only a matter of time before we see far more female champions.
If you want to take sexist assumptions into account, consider that 'most' women are fairly intuitive when it comes to emotions. This 'women's intuition' could certainly be a powerful weapon at the poker table. For an example of this take a look at how Annie Duke beat Phil Hellmuth in the tournament of champions in 2004. She just unhinged the guy and put him on tilt until he didn't know which way was up. Of course Annie Duke also has a PhD in Psychology which probably helps.
I do think that women also have some catching up to do. Poker has been a man's game for a while. Women don't often venture into smoky back rooms in seedy bars to be the only woman playing at a table of ten sexist men. But with poker going more mainstream and the invention of online poker, women can get into the game far more easily these days, which is why I expect to see plenty more good women players in the future.

No poker is not a man's game, it's a people game. But for several reason man give an image (the man ego) to the female players (a lot of women will take advantage of that).
We often say that poker is a gentleman's game. Well it's a ladie's game too. Women's often act with a good attitude at the table.
You can find all type of players at your table. And you can find a women as a novice, Average and experience player.
Women have a good spirit of competition, and like you said they are disciplined. Poker is so popular right now, so you will often find good women poker players at the table.
Women showed that, they have there place at the poker table, and I think it's absolutely fine. I played (and will play in the future) against many womens and I enjoy playing against them equally as I enjoy playing against man. I go after the players money, that's the way to score in that game. It doesn't matter who I have in front of me.
I had the pleasure to play with J. Harman, let me tell you.......That was a tough and great experience!
Take care

No poker is a thinking game, and anyone who has a good brain can play the game very well. I do think men and women play a different kind of game, as you said they can play good solid tight poker, but sometimes can't pull the trigger, where as men are aggressive and pulling the trigger to much. But it can also be good to be a woman, Sometimes men will soft-play or go easy on a woman poker player, this should never take place in a game, but it does happen from time to time. Or some women players will sandbag or play dumb as well. For example i play at the mirage all the time, and the same 23 year old knock-out plays there all the time as well, and she tells everyone at the table this is her first time playing, and oddly enough some guys will feel sorry, or they think they have a chance to score with her so they take it easy on her, and she rips them to shreds every single night. I know better then to take pity on her, so i try and crush her as much as anyone else at the table.

i agree with you to a certain extent...there are obviously those top female professional players who can play on a level with just about anybody in the world, they certainly differ from the style you describe...but i think you have given a fairly accurate description for what is at least the general image of a random female player
however, you should be careful with how you use this image at the table, it could get you into trouble if you happen to run into a better-than-average player
