I see in the bible that I can sell my daughter into slavery. ex 21:7-11. Do you know where I can get a good price for her? Also I see if my neighbor worships another god that I should stone him to death. Duet 13:6,8-15 .Do I do this on my own or include my other neighbors? I don't have any stones. Can I use bricks or does god frown on that? And for the Christians I know will say that the New Testament does away with the old practices check out Matthew 5:18-20

Don't forget the part about not suffering a witch to live- How many Wiccans can you waste on a get out of jail free card like that? Seriously,if you're female and you read Paul's writings get ready to be furious.. He was a major misogynist. The Bible is a book with a lot of holdover from the barbaric culture it was seeking to change. Look at it in context of its' times and it's amazing .Look at it from today's point of view, not so much...

you have to think about it this way. In the bible times things were much different. Those things, selling your child into slavery and stoneing your neighbor, should be translated into today more or less, like it's okay to send your daughter to work so she can help the family or make sure that your neighbors beliefs has no effect on you. AND when people say that about the new testiment taking out the old, it means that if you do make those sins you will be forgiven so the rules you need to follow are not nessicallry the ones in duet or ex. the promble is you are taking the bible EXTREAMLY literal, although after all this time should be taken a little more thoughtful and think about it before just saying things like that. But it is good that you are open to talking about it.

Sure you are confused because so many individuals took the initiative to change things or all together truncate things from the Bible. There is a misconception that the New Testament is suppose to over take the Old, but that's not true. I simply believe that the safest way to endure and enjoy life is to live it with ethics and integrity. The Bible has been so watered down that it's nearly contradicting, and if you're not careful a sly person can definitely brain wash you with readings from the Bible. If you are interested in learning what info is contained in the big book make sure you read it for yourself. Sometimes a bit of research on the side will be enligthening for you. Good point though!

First of all, as a Catholic Christian myself, I know that the NT never loses away the OT. Jesus didn't tells us to forget everything His Father told us. He actually reinforced His Father's rules in a loving way.

Ex. 21:1-11 deals with laws regarding slaves. God never told man that slavery was just. People though have always had slaves or been slaves. Even God's choosen people, Israelites, were slaves of the Egyptians for many years. These verses spell out all the rules that go with slavery of Hebrews. Note that a slave wasn't always treated bad and beaten and such like Americans think slavery is, when we look at the history in America with Africans being brought here. Slaves were also like handmaids, men that took care of the fields and nursemaids. They lived in the homes with their 'masters'/'owners' and were feed and clothed and part of the family. Like a butler and maid are today. So I suggest that you rerread Exodus 21, the entire chapter and see that God gave them people rules on how to treat their slaves and if they disobeyed His rules, they (the masters) would be punished.

Duet. 13 - there was the death penalty then and it was by stoning for certain crimes, beheading for other crimes, and later Romans crucified the worst criminals. Stoning is still done in some areas of the Middle East. Beheading was done for thousands of years. One could stone a sinner. But they had to be innocent themselves. Like in the NT, Jesus told the men that wanted to stone the prostitute that they could, but only if they had no sin on their soul. They could have placed her in jail or made her a slave for a short time as punishment, but stoning her was unjust. God punishes us, faithful ones, for worshiping idols. If I worship my boat, house, money and all my possessions and these possessions come first in my life, then I am idolizing them. God is to be first. God gives us what we need, not what we want.

Your questions sound as if you read a few verses and try to mock the Word of God instead of trying to understand it. Mockery is a sin, you know? You can give me any verse and I'm sure your own personal interpretation will be wrong. Especially if you are trying to mock God and His church. Try again. God bless!

It is also a general rule to lock up the 51/50s like you but we need some of you out there to make the rest of us look better. Don't read me wrong I am a Pagan. I do not endorse Christianity but I also do not condem it. To condem a belief system is hypocritical for one can not truely say they know what is the right path unless they have tried all of them. That in itself would take more than a lifetime soo just deal with it and move on life is too short.

Oh selling daughters can be very profitable. I had two (it was a sin but god will forgive me) and sold them. Not only did I get rid of the kids I didn't want and couldn't afford I got $25,000. It's was a good deal. I think I could have got $15,000 each but I gave the guy a deal because he bought the set.
I have stoned 7 people as of today. I recommend going to a beach or quarry in your area (thank god I live on Lake Michigan) there are great fist sized stones there.
Good luck and happy stoning.

Yes, you can force your daughter to work on Thanksgiving day for K-Mart at the mere price of $7.00 per hour stocking shelves for the tyrants.

You're daughter, due to the lack of family ties and influence, will NEVER get to be the CEO of K-Mart and make $4 million a year doing the job of photo opporuntities with Chinese big wigs.

But you don't have to give Christianity or Judiasm or the Bible any credit for that. IT's simply the Way of the World.

In the words of the immortal Mel Brooks, "It's good to be the King."

To bad you're not of Royal Blood, she'll just have to stock pampers on the shelf forever while the CEO gets paid a 5 Million Dollar Bonus for leaving Target to come to K-Mart.

Of course you are confused. Jesus proved God's true nature and power through demonstration, not just words. When you read the bible, keeping God's true nature in mind, you won't fall into such deep pits anymore and the spiritual sense of being will appear, where now it is obscure. good luck.

You need to wise up!

Mat 5:18 For amen I say unto you, till heaven and earth pass, one jot, or one tittle shall not pass of the law, till all be fulfilled.

Read the last line. "TILL ALL BE FULFILLED."

Jesus fulfilled all that was written about him in the law, the psalms, and the prophets.

Then the law was indeed set aside ... ALL of it ... and replaced with the grace of the new covenant.

Luk 24:44 And he said to them: These are the words which I spoke to you while I was yet with you, that all things must needs be fulfilled which are written in the law of Moses and in the prophets and in the psalms, concerning me.
Luk 24:45 Then he opened their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures.
Luk 24:46 And he said to them: Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer and to rise again from the dead, the third day:
Luk 24:47 And that penance and remission of sins should be preached in his name, unto all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
Luk 24:48 And you are witnesses of these things.

Some things in the Old Testament don't apply still. Hence why it is called the "Old" Testament. Plus, the woman was a maidservant, a maid. We still have those today.
