No! in bygone years in The United States, women who were maybe poor but educated, would advertise in the newspapers and over the telegrams for men needing wives. Sometimes for cooking and cleaning, sometimes for breeding, sometimes for taking care of children left when the first wife might have died in childbirth.
THAT WAS IN THE 1900. era
Unfortunately, now days many women from foreign countries are selling themselves to American men just to get into the country, only to find their passports stolen by these men and them being made virtual slaves because with out their pass ports, they cannot escape this cruelty.
Some how, and in some way we all SELL OUR SELVES FOR SOMETHING IMPORTANT So we all prostitute our selves for something!

It's when you can place an order by filling up a form, either online, at the agency, on a catalogue and send a cheque. After some processing time, your bride of choice is sent to you via air mail. That's a mail order bride. Mail order brides are not prostitutes although you have a valid point, they are quite similar to one. I suppose if no one buys them, they will turn to prostitution.

A relative of mine had a mail order bride. They were very happy and married for several years before he died. She was asian and they had 2 absolutely beautiful children.

It's a woman, (usually russian or asian) that you order online or through a catalogue to marry you, and that brings her over to your country. But I would advise against it, because as soon as she has a green card, she's gonna divorce you and take all your money.
