I'm planning to go to Mexico late Dec. on the 18-20th on a plane and I heard we now need a passport (after June 2007) to go to Mexico.

But how long does it take to get a passport after applying.
How about you guys, who have applied or just got one, what do you know?

Basically, just tell me what you know about it. . . . . . .(for those who just recently got a passport).

I can't wait to be even more confused because I never been on a plane, and it will be my first time.

Thanks!

If you are flying by air travel to a foreign country then yes, you do need a passport. It used to take 6 weeks, but because of the increase in demand, it now takes 10 weeks or more. No one can say for sure how long it would take you to receive it, but the government is saying 10 weeks is currently the minimum amount of time, unless you do expedited which is now taking 6 weeks. Currently they are allowing people to fly as long as they can show proof that they applied, but that may not be in effect by the time you leave.Your best bet is to apply now, that way you should definitely have it prior to December.

Wow, a month is a long time to wait for a passport! Here in Australia the waiting time is like three days - and you can speed up the process by paying a little extra money & have it in 24 to 48 hours!

Well, you got some far less than useful answers. In reality now, in the United States, it is taking about 20 weeks to get a passport. You need to apply PRONTO to be safe. Go to the website below to get all info and print out the forms. If you fill out the forms and have all your documents together before going to the passport office at the post office, it will save you time. Hope all works out well for you.

As of today, per NBC news it is taking 3 months to get a passport. If you're entering Mexico fromthe US via car, you don't need a passport until next year. You only need a passport if you're entering the country via the air.

A little more than a month. Get them now trust me this happened to me last year and my passport didn't come so I couldn't go out of the country. Better to get the job done sooner than later.

maybe you can get lucky and get it in a month. they have a backlog in processing passports. it's all over the news. so better apply for one now.
