I really enjoy pesto sauce but within 15 minutes of eating I begin to have a serious stomach ache as if I were punched...this goes on for several hours. Then, once my stomach quits hurting I get intestinal cramps that are out of this world. Periodically for the next 6+ hours I confine myself to a bathroom. I have no problems with any pesto ingred. such as cheese, olive oil, and garlic...except sometimes basil. Once in a while cheap spaghetti sauce will get me in a knot. I always thought basil was good for digestion and good for calming ailments. Does anyone have any clues why I would experience such things?

to my knowlege I'm not allergic to any foods except the meat/milk of goat. The only spice I know I am allergic to is nutmeg, causes hives and nausea. I have no problem with tomatoes.

Personally I think that are bodies just don't do well with certain foods, allergic or not. It is how sensitive our digestive track is. Maybe you are allergic to basil? But if that is how you react to it I would try and avoid eating it.

I would say you do have a sensitivity. You might even have ulcers. There are things my husband cannot eat without experiencing similar symptoms.

There is one thing: Are you, by any chance, allergic to tomatoes?
