...He's 30 years old, very healthy. He came home from work today with 3 very swollen lymph nodes in his left armpit (he's also left handed) with an area of bright red swelling. The nodes are each quarter size; the rash covers an area about 4 inches by 4 inches on the underside of the affected arm. They are painful to the touch and to lower his arm causes pain as well. There are no puncture marks anywhere, he has no fever. I see no signs of infection in his hand or arm and othwise he feels fine. I traced the red area to watch fro spreading in the am. Any physician advice or people with similiar stories to share?

There are no bite marks - no definite center of the swollen nodes. He's a Contractor; he's been building house for 10 years. Other than the pain, redness and swelling, there are no other symtoms at all.

Take him to the Emergency Room or to the doctor. He could have various things. A bad infection,Allergic reaction etc. As an EMT we ask patients questions doing the sample survey.
S (sign and symptoms, what are they)
A (allergies, Does he have any)
M(Medication, Does he take any?what kind)
P(past history...has he had this before?)
L(Last oral intake..what did he eat)
E(events leading up to the rash)
Ask your husband these questions, could he go in contact with posin sumac or posin Ivy. Does he have flu symptoms? They would have to see your husband. PLEASE don't wait.

This is nothing to fret about. I have had the same thing and so have others. He could have strep throat, but it mostly goes away in about 2-3 days. It is very painful to touch and for some reason people mostly receive it in the dominant hands armpit. If it does spread from the armpit to the arm or gets severely worse contact your doctor. It may feel worse during different times throughout the day and if it spreads only in the armpit than he should be fine.

They are right it could be alot of things, but he should see a Dr. ASAP . My Dad had the same thing 3 mo. ago found out it was lymphatic lympnode lukemia . Thank Goodness it was CLL instead of ACL . he has had 2 treatments and back to normal , going to do a third treatment to be on the safe side of things. To start with they were going to do six treatments since he did so well he don't have to do all six now.

This is generally considered a infection and he should see a doctor. You did right by marking it, good idea. Now keep your eye on it tonight unless he gets a fever or really ill. If, in the A.M. he still has it, if it's spreading, get him to an ER.
