People will always make up stories about something they believe. People even try to make up or change facts, but that is a bit more difficult. Religion, since it is a BELIEF and not a knowledge can be changed and manipulated ever which way the wind blows. The reason for all those different religious denominations is human's ego, power (often through war), money, sex and the like. Only very few people who launch a new religious denomination (cult or sect) actually believe in it. These so called prophets (usually men), have an never ending desire for power and adulation and certainly MONEY. We all know that these newborn prophets, or whatever they call themselves, find themselves wealthy in no time and with power over their flock, greater than most presidents ever will have. The average person finds it very easy to follow these new denominations, mostly because their leader(s) have a gift of gab, and can lull them in with their wonderful sermons. Do you know anybody who listens to: BE AWARE OF FALSE PROPHETS!!

There is a problem with your question because religion and relationship are not compatible. Jesus spoke negatively of religion and religious people. He called the Pharisees white washed tombs and full of dead mens bones. The other problem is that even though Christianity is about having a relationship with our Savior Jesus Christ, knowing and understanding doctrine and the Bible is key to be able to live out that relationship correctly. We do not want to be as the Bible describes as being blown about by the wind of incorrect teachings if we do not understand doctrine. We are commanded to study the Word and rightly divide the Word of Truth to show ourselves approved. Doctrine is our lifeline to being like Christ. Religions are bad period. Denominations are an entirely different issue. If by basics you mean the Apostles creed, that is an excellent place to start understanding basic doctrinal truths.

You're seriously missing the point. god (of whomever, christian, muslim, jew. Take your pick) doesn't want people to get along. He wants you to kill the other (also children of the same god, or maybe another god. Wow, could there be 2 or 3 or 4 gods? Sure looks like it to me) people who don't believe, and goosestep as you. It's OK, if you believe (and kill) you're off the hook. Heaven or 72 virgins, whatever. BTW, virgins?? I can't imagine anyone having a use for virgins.

It's never gonna happen. Religion is THE great divider of humanity. How about you go one step further, and quit believing in this sky-man and then we could really get along.

The Jews have a saying that goes something like this:
Don't do onto other what you don't want done onto you. Everything else is commentary.

until people stop humanizing what they call god, religions will flourish. as long as people atribute human emotions and human logic to that which they call god, they will continue to claim "HIM" as their own.
I happen to think that IT is much greater than a mere human being can yet imagine.
