They don't really invent things, they design things to perform to specifications with proper safety margins so as to prevent failure.
Their job is to design mechanical or electronic systems that perform a certain function, do a certain task or provide a certain environment for a specific cost, or to ascertain that the task cannot be performed adequately for that cost.

A design engineer will probably invent things and create patentable pieces of things more than a support type engineer that is handed a set of project specifications and required to do all the work necessary to complete the project. This will probably include some original work but the person who did the specifications would be the inventor in this case.
A design engineer will often be handed a problem to solve that requires some creative and unique solution and this is true invention as it is unique and never been done before. In some cases an earlier solution to the problem is too big, expensive or just not functional enough. This case still can be an invention if the solution is truly novel.

Funny question.
There are many kinds of engineers, from civil to electrical to computer to audio engineers ... and I'm sure they do plenty of things besides "inventing"
My brother is an electrical engineer. He graduated from college three years ago here in the US, and now he's working in London, UK. He plans stuff, draws stuff, calculates stuffm, edits stuff... visits nuclear plants where the work is done regularly and..stuff like that. He's a math wiz so he likes it.
I guess it depends on the type of engineering that's done, and on the type of company you work for ...

Yea i think they are. And to be honest you can use religion(not just Christianity) to not only justify racism but to justify anything, if you take it into your own context and not what is actually written. Hinduism was justified within the caste system in India Muslims use Islam to justify killing homosexuals. Most times black African slaves were given bibles in English, and when a raicst is interpreting the bible to the victim of racism, they will interpret it how they see fit. It is the interpreter who is bad, not the actual book which bases the religion I don't believe the original bible King James Version was racist at all, in fact, on many occasions he describes blacks prophets, even describes Jesus as black, but NEVER describing whites. During King James era race wasn't an issue. Only recently during Atlantic Slave trade did race start to become an issue. Colonization isn't racist, the way whites went about colonization was racist. Africans have been colonizing areas earlier than whites, many Natives of South Africa are actually black africans. And they colonized those areas. White people were the last explorers/colonizers, Asians(east Asians) and Black Africans have been exploring much earlier. Now i agree that whites are engineered to be racist in order for them to stay "superior" to others. They not only brainwash themselves but also non-whites as well. So this also makes it easier for them to stay "on top" if everyone else feels "inferior" to them

They do many things. A electrical engineer for example would put plans together for a power distribution system for a building.
