It's the first time I'm traveling to really cold weather and I need help with what must I take with me to the trip, what to wear underneath jackets and jeans, about the shoes I should use, sleepwear, etc. I'm also taking a 6 year old with me and need to know about the perfect wardrobe for the child.
I would also like to know which is the most appropiate outfit for me to get there with since I'll be arriving from Miami in an overnight flight.
Thank you very much!

Trust me on this... An electric blanket
Even if it is a twin.
As far as clothes, layers and don't forget the gloves.

Dress in layers that way if you get too warm you can remove something.
The outer layer should be something semi water proof.
Each layer should be some what loose fitting.
The underwear layer however should be a snug fit and made of a moister wicking material so if you do sweat it will take it away from your body.
You will want a good warm hat that covers your ears and a good pair of gloves.
As for boots there are a lot of different choices but the most important thing is that they're waterproof and a good fit, too tight and they will cut off circulation in your feet and too loose they will allow water to seep in.
Now my question is how cold of weather are we talking about if it is around 30 degrees Fahrenheit you wont need all that but if you are talking northern Wisconsin in January you will need what I described

Layers are important. I'm not sure how north you're going, and our viewpoints could differ since you're from Miami and I live in northern Minnesota..

Electric blankets are great things, I have one myself.

As far as shoes go, personally, I think any solid pair of shoes will do. No matter what you wear, getting the bottoms of your jeans wet is inevitable, so you may as well be comfortable while you do it.

it would be helpful if you give us a better idea of where you're going - and when. Various places can see snowfall, but can have wildly different temperatures and conditions.
