Get a legitimate title or forget about it.

ONLY if you can get proof it's not stolen, etc. Depends on the state, several states don't even have vehicle titles over a certain age car? like Alabama, or they don't require one to register the car. All THEY require is a bill of sale. If you're not sure of your OWN state's requirements, you SHOULD learn it, fast. I would not purchase a car with only a bill of sale, because only in states that accept that will it be valid. If you're getting it dirt cheap, and can have the police trace the VIN to make sure it's not stolen or under Repo or lien, then you might want to do it. But you need to find out what your state's requirements are for owning the car, and make sure the current owner IS the current owner ( ask for former car registrations, etc. to see if his/her name is on them )

In my state you cannot buy a car without a title...nor can you sell one without a title...but you can sell parts off of it...and sell a car as a parts car only...It cannot run though. Without a til you will not be able to register the car for a tag, insurance or anything.

absolutely not, Never buy a car without a title. It could be a salvage vehicle, stolen etc. which means its crap either way.

DON'T. if the seller doesn't have the title you can't know if he really owns it.

The guy you bought it from, may not be the legal owner.
