Absolutely. That doesn't mean an immigrant can't speak his native tongue when he pleases - it merely means that if you have any intentions of ever becoming a citizen, we will no longer enable you not to learn the language by posting everything in a bazillion different languages.
It is already a prerequisite to becoming a citizen - and the people who do not desire to learn the language are pretty much stating that their intent is not to become a citizen.
Obviously, the democrats in congress do not agree with me.

YES! English is the language spoken by the majority of Americans. Many do not even know a second language! Our Constitution was written in English, our laws are in English & English is what is taught in our schools as the common language, to learn other languages you must enroll in classes but English is required. Since it is "our" cultural language, why not make it official?

yes, but keep in mind that English is not an easy language. I have lived in this country (legally by the way!) for about 11 years and I have not finished learning. Sometimes it drives me crazy! But definitely, it should be the official language, we must adapt to this country's culture and language, not impose ours.

Why do we need an "official" language? With that, do we also get and "official" bird, and, flower? Would this make people speak it? No, so, basically, just more papers that mean nothing. Great idea.
