It is possible for astigmatism to disappear over time, though rarely. There is no eye doctor that has all the answers, because the medical knowledge is incomplete and always will be. Noone can even tell you for certain why you have developed an astigmatism in the first place. I am speaking from the personal experience!

There are simple eye exercises that can reduce astigmatism as well as some other refractive conditions. For more information, go here:

Hope this helps!

I would personally get it rechecked but Alfred is way off about the impossiblity of having astigmatism just disappear... I had astigmatism for years then about a year ago during my eye exam the doctor said my astigmatism was gone... I had it rechecked again and the other doctor said I dont have astigmatism either... So it IS possible but check out the doctor again!

Astigmatism is only a particular version of short or long sight.
Everyone has some if you measure accurately enough, but many don't have enough for it to register in a spectacle prescription.

As a prescription can vary (and an examination result vary to a degree in accuracy too!) small degrees of astigmatism can change and even disappear. (0.25 - 0.50 D)

It wouldn' t be remarkable for 0.75D of "With the rule" astigmatism to disappear over a couple of years. Over years "With the rule" astigmatism tends to decrease, and "Against the rule" astigmatism increase.

Bottom line: astigmatism can go away, but it's usually slow, and depends on individual cases, so don't expect it to.

Astigmatism cannot go away as it is a physical abnormality of the eyes.

Switch eye doctors. Your new one lied to you.
