I'm on the waiting list for this class three M4 lower, and I was wondering if the bushmaster preban upper will work with it?
SPECIFICALLY the Bushmaster 16in A3 M4 Gas Piston Upper.

Yes, you can use the upper as long as it is set up for the type of pins the lower you receive has...
You will need the m16 bolt as the bolt that comes with a standard upper is not for full auto use.
As for if the gas piston and if it will work in full auto, your best bet is to contact bushmaster directly. It may have different parts or heavier duty parts needed for sustained fire that a semi auto would not need. They offer these for Law Enforcement as a class 3 weapon so in sure they could advised if anything different was needed.
Bushmaster will need a copy of your tax stamp before selling anything that is a part for a class 3 weapon to you, so have that on hand.

P.S: To the otherwise uninformed, there IS NO SUCH THING as a 'PRE-BAN' full-auto M-4 lower. As another poster pointed out, the M-4 clone was not adopted until 1994, 8 years AFTER the 1986 BATFE BAN.
The only Class 3 components are for M-16's, if any are on the market, at all.
NO civilian can purchase any form of the M-4, or component thereof, currently issued by the U.S. military, only Law Enforcement units can.

I will talk about gas impingement system. You need an auto bolt carrier. Otherwise you are good to go. If the bolt carriers don't change with piston systems then all you need is a full auto bolt carrier. Was the m4 made before 1986?
How can you get a m4 lower when they weren't made until 1994? Are you wasting our time

With the auto bolt and bolt carrier, the upper should work just fine, I'm almost 100% certain the upper you are talking about is chrome lined, which is a must have for select fire weapons.
