Being isolated from Government control and regulation, did the fact that Brigham was able to essentially be the Law and Authority - is this why Mormonism prospered?

Excellent question. Answer is no.

The Mormons left Missouri and Illinois because they were run out by the local residents. Two primary reasons for this was (1) they were practicing polygamy, and (2) they were growing in numbers so much that there were beginning to win many local elected offices ... Joseph Smith was mayor of one town.

Utah was a logical place to settle, because at the time, it was part of Mexico ... the US government couldn't prosecute them for polygamy there. The devout Mormons believe that God told them to settle there, but Utah was ironically the first place they came to that was outside the US.

That's how 'cultures' originate - by separation and isolation from another group. Had there been no gold discovered in California, the 'brighamites' may have become an independent nation of radical mormons with a lot more than 'conversion' of the gentiles on their mind. To say mormonism is not a CULTure is ignorant of the meaning of the word.

The internet has exposed all their past comments and proclivities of the church, and there's no one to blame for this than the church itself. It's secrecy, repression of thought, and demands of unwavering fealty will certainly be it's complete undoing soon. Especially as the gentiles move up into Utah and dilute the concentration of lds.

Well it's irrelevant. God would have provided a way to restore his gospel and bring it to every nation and tongue in these latter days, wether Brigham Young brought the saints to Utah or not. So, I'm sorry to spoil your fun, but yes it would be just as prominent. Nothing can stop God's work from getting done in these latter days, not even you.

No, if they had stayed one group, instead of splitting into two, they would be more powerful, and then all of them having gone to Utah, would have even been a more powerful force. If they hadn't argued who would take over the church at the time and let Gid be the judge of that since it was suppose to be led by God and not by men, well they would have been even a greater force to reckon with, if the church had not split into two groups.

Quite possibly. Considering that the Lord led the prophet/s to Utah so the Saints could find a safe haven....

No it was almost gone and the people had decided he was a false prophet. When locus came to eat the crops and they would have starved to death. But out of no where came sea gulls and ate the locus. Not only saving the crops but provideing meat and they didn't starve and saw that as a sign from God that he was with them and from then on they prospered and held fast to that religion.
Although now we know that they will do that sometimes.

ya, it helped a lot, ever since Mormons began to affiliate with the world again they have had to undergo some serious changes, polygamy, blacks, etc.

Perhaps the unhealthiest thing binding Mormons to the rest of the world is the Internet. The Internet will spell the downfall for Mormonism.

Realistically, had their push-carts not broken down in Utah, they would have pushed them right into the Pacific Ocean.

I don't think so.

God brought them to Utah.

"The truth of God will go forth boldly, nobly, and independent, till it has penetrated every continent, visited every clime, swept every country, and sounded in every ear, till the purposes of God shall be accomplished, and the Great Jehovah shall say the work is done."

I think that the Archangel Moroni should be more revered than Mormon, since Archangel Moroni showed Joseph Smith where the untranslated tablets were located.

I am a moron.
