God is a name for something, God is a generic title applied to the deities of many religions throughout history. Therefore God is used incorrectly when referring to the maker of all things. Perhaps his real name is Fred. I can see the new bumper stickers now, *Fred bless America* and *In Fred we trust*

You're right in the context that the name/title God is a generic name, which has been used by all religions throughout history, to identify their deities, but you also make the conclusion in your question that this *God* is male. Why not female, or more logically, gender neutral. Maybe the bumper sticker should read "That which is, bless America"

I don't know if God/Goddess is a being or an energy but I truly believe that there is a masculine and feminine side.
