I think the greatest obstactle to peace in the world would be a lack on consensus.
Most religions and philosophies agree with the simple axiom that "helping people is good and hurting people is bad."
But not everyone can agree on the definition of "help", "hurt", and "people".

If we asked, what is the greatest obstacle for an adolescent to become a mature person, the answer would be 'none' of course. It is a 'process' that he must go through.
We are going right now through a 'process', at the end of which, we will crave for world peace and unity. Unfortunately suffering is part of this process.
World peace is not on everyone's 'priority list', right now, just as maturing is not the priority for an adolescent.
